According to Sky Sport, Chelsea close to secured their third signings as the Blues are close to secured another deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz. However, the deal is reportedly “all but done”, with the Blues ready to pay the €80m (£73m) asking price.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have already secured major signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech as the Blues looks promising against next season.
With a move for Havertz looking increasingly likely, Chelsea247 takes a look at what shirt number he could take at Stamford Bridge. Havertz present shirt number is 29 for the past four seasons at Leverkusen, He has also worn the numbers 7, 20 and 23 for the German national team.
Currently, Havertz’s favoured number 29 is in the possession of defender Fikayo Tomori but it does not seem the England international has any particular affiliation with the number and may be willing to let Havertz take it. Also, The number 10 shirt could also be up for grabs with current wearer Willian expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Of the other numbers Havertz has worn throughout his career, 17, 7 and 20 are currently taken by players unlikely to leave in the near future in Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The number 23 is expected to be available, though, with Michy Batshuayi’s time at the club seemingly up with Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order.
Other numbers which could be given to Havertz include the 6 shirt, number 14, 15, 16 and 21. Danny Drinkwater is technically in possession of the number 6 but he has not played for Chelsea since a 30-minute cameo in the 2018 Community Shield.
14, 15, 16 and 21 are also vacant with the most recent wearers, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Victor Moses, Kenedy and Davide Zappacosta, currently out on loan and likely to leave permanently this summer
