Chelsea are looking to splash the cash on their main transfer targets this season. The club has completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner. But now more additions might be on their way.
The Blues are reportedly very close to completing a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz. Chelsea will have to pay almost 100 million for acquiring Havertz’s services. Thiago Silva also looks to be on his way to the club.
His contract with PSG is over and there haven’t been talks of any extension. After the loss to Bayern in the finals Silva wants to end his career in the Premier League. And Chelsea is final destination. Chelsea too will come off a good bargain as Silva will add experience to the team.
But there is one problem in Chelsea’s approach. They are focusing their funds on their midfield and their attack, but not really on their defense. Silva will be good addition but you can only expect 1 or 2 good seasons out of him.
The club’s midfield and attack are at par with the top 6 now. They even have the potential to become the best in the league. But now the Blues have to focus on defense and a new goalkeeper perhaps.
OFFENSE CAN WIN YOU GAMES BUT DEFENSE WINS YOU TITLES
Chelsea needs to consider that they might have the same problems that Manchester City had this seasons. They do not have a fixed defensive setup. In such scenarios, injuries to even 1 or 2 of your key players can throw away the balance of the team.
Meanwhile, According to reports, Chelsea has completed a deal for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell. Chilwell has agreed to a 5-year deal and the club will pay £50 million for his services.
