Chelsea Women have started the season on fire, as the Blues Women’s team defeated Bristol City 9-0.

Interestingly, Chelsea women become the first team in Women’s Super League history to produce nine different scorers in a match.

Fran Kirby started the rout with her first goal since May 2019, as early as the 15th minute. 16 minutes later, Maren Mjelde doubled our advantage when she confidently slotted home a penalty after Ji So-Yun was brought down in the box.

Goals from Melanie Leupolz, Erin Cuthbert and Millie Bright followed in quick succession as the Blues entered half-time with a 5-0 scoreline.

Bethany England scored 20 minutes into the second half to open her account for the season, as Chelsea started the second half in dominant fashion. Three minutes later, substitute Niamh Charles had an easy goal to make it 7 after fine work from fellow sub Pernille Harder.

Harder will eventually score hers in the 73rd minute. There was still time for a ninth and it came from a ninth different scorer. Sam Kerr had been heavily involved in several of our earlier goals and finally, inside the last 10 minutes, she had the goal her performance deserved as she won the game 9-0, with nine different scorers.
