Lampard finally reveals why Werner took the penalties instead of Jorginho
Jorginho has been Chelsea’s penalty taker since the departure of Eden Hazard, and he was doing a good job with a perfect record until recently.
The Italy international has recently missed two penalty kicks this season, and he wasn’t the one to take the penalty kicks in the 3-0 win against Rennes.
Werner dispatched two penalty kicks in style, with Jorginho even handing him the ball.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed that he had a conversation with Jorginho about letting Werner take the penalty kicks, and Jorginho was professional about it.
The Blues boss said: “It wasn’t an easy decision because Jorginho has been pretty faultless for us. He missed two recently, then Timo came in and scored one in our last game.
“I had a conversation with Jorginho and his answer was perfect for a professional in that he doesn’t care who takes them as long as we score.
“That’s how he approaches it so Timo took them tonight. He’s our taker at the moment ands he took them very emphatically so I’m happy.”
