Mendy: Had a good game with some good saves to preserve Chelsea’s lead, until a free header from a corner denied him a clean sheet. 7/10
Azpilicueta: Worked very hard defensively on the right flank, and linked up especially well with Hudson-odoi in the first half. 7/10
Zouma: Enjoyed a very physical game, as the Chelsea defence was put to constant pressure from late in the first half until the second half. Was having a good game until the defence made a mistake by letting Rennes score a free header from a corner. 7/10
Thiago Silva: Read the game well, composed at the back, passed the ball with finesse. However, he’d also take part of the blame for losing his marker leading to Rennes goal. 7/10
Chilwell: Started the game brightly, but seemed to have lost focus later on. Was uncharacteristically sloppy on a couple of occasions and almost cost Chelsea a goal with a very sloppy pass. Missed a good chance with a poor header late on. 5/10
Kovacic: Didn’t seem to be at his best when Rennes hijacked the game midway through the first half until the end of the game. 6/10
Jorginho: Started the game in commanding form as he dominated the midfield. But the game seemed to run past him at times when Rennes grew into the game. 6/10
Mount: Was very good in the first half. Worked hard, linked with his teammates pretty well and a sublime assist for Hudson-Odoi. 7/10
Hudson-Odoi: Took his goal brilliantly and was really impressive at the start of the game with some good moves. The game took a different shape in the second half and his impact was reduced. Good game nevertheless. 7.5/10
Werner: Missed a big chance early in the game, when Hudson-Odoi played in a decent cross. Missed another big chance late in the game, but Giroud saved his blushes by scoring from the opportunity. 5/10
Tammy Abraham: Was the team’s focal point in the first half and seemed to do a good job. Got tired in the second half. 6/10
Subs: Giroud: Came on as a 68th minute sub for Tammy Abraham and scored the goal that sealed the win for Chelsea. 7/10
Kante: Came on for Mount in the 75th minute and brought his hard work to the midfield. 6/10
Ziyech: Brought some spark to the attack after coming on as a 75th minute substitute for Werner. Played his role leading to Giroud’s goal. 6/10
Kai Havertz: Didn’t really impact the game after coming on for Kovacic in the 75th minute. 5/10
Reece James: 91 minute sub for Ben Chilwell.
