Transfer Deal: Chelsea have eyes on €70m-rated Atletico Madrid defender
Ahead of the January transfer window, Chelsea will be looking out to strengthen their side so as to lift the EPL title this season or at least maintain a space in the top four.
The Blues under Lampard have been able to build a solid team, with this season looking quite good so far. However, there seems to still be a weak link at the defense which they hope to work on.
According to the latest reports, the Blues have been linked with moves to sign Atletico Madrid defender, Jose Gimenez as a potential transfer target to strengthen at the back.
While the arrival of Thiago Silva has been a plus at Stamford Bridge, the signing of a new strong defender will, however, also go far to help in the ongoing campaign and presenting them as a serious contender.
According to Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast, he stated the Blues have their eyes on Gimenez as an option, and the Uruguay international could be absolutely ideal for the west London giants.
With Atletico Madrid, Gimenez has shown himself to be one of the best defenders in the world for much of his career, and a move to a bigger club like Chelsea will be a plus for his career. Should he decide on a move to Chelsea, the 25-year-old is assured of making the first team and also get enough playing chances.
With Silva at 36 and aging, there is no doubt he would soon be unable to go at the highest level for much longer, and Chelsea signing Gimenez could be an ideal long-term replacement.
