CONFIRMED: Chelsea have finally found a promising teenager to understudy Chilwell
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard went all out to sign a quality left-back during the summer transfer window.
Ben Chilwell was signed from Leicester City, with the club paying £50m for his signing.
At 23, Chilwell is at a good age, but the Blues still need a back up in that position, with the long-term future of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri in doubt.
According to reports, Chelsea are considering a move for RB Leipzig left-back Matthew Bondswell, to act as an understudy to Chilwell.
The 18-year-old seems to have a promising career, having left Nottingham Forest in 2018 for Leipzig.
He is currently on a season-long loan with second-tier Dutch side FC Dordecht, and has been capped for England at every level from Under-15 to Under-18.
According to The Telegraph, a number of top European sides are monitoring the talented teenager, but Chelsea seem keen to seal the deal for the 18-year-old.
Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso may eventually leave the club at the end of the season, with Alonso who’s now third choice left-back, set to leave in January.
