Abramovich Makes Lampard Decision as German Tipped to Succeed?
Roman Abramovich’ decision on Lampard?
Fast forward to 2021, Chelsea are struggling at almost all the ends. They don’t play expansive football, players look unmotivated and out of ideas. All this would have been acceptable but the results haven’t been good enough as well. Currently, they are 8th in table and it looks like they will struggle to get into the top four.
Thus it is obvious that fingers will be pointed at Lampard, who is running on thin ice. According to The Independent, Lampard will be given time to turn things around by their owner Roman Abramovich. The Blues don’t want to appoint an interim manager in case the club legend is sacked midseason. Abramovich would want a new manager to replace him immediately.
Lampard faces a crucial set of games against Luton Town, Wolves, Tottenham and Sheffield United. A poor run of results in these games could potentially result in his departure. According to the same report, the Independent states the RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is the preferred option for Chelsea to replace Lampard.
It was under the German that Timo Werner managed to establish himself as a top goal scorer in Europe. The second option is Thomas Tuchel who is currently a free agent. Tuchel helped PSG reach the Champions League final but he was sacked mid-season. Massimilano Allegri is a name that has been mooted but he is not an option for the club.
12th Man’s opinion:
Lurent Blanc to replace Lampard?
The problem for Frank Lampard is that he has assembled a squad that can play attacking football which Abramovich loves. But he lacks the know-how like Guardiola. He has decided to play like Jurgen Klopp who plays his Liverpool team in a similar formation. Thus he sets up his team like Guardiola but his football is similar to that of Klopp.
It can be questioned why was Timo Werner signed when he has never played well in a No.9 role before signing for Chelsea. Kai Havertz’s best position is the No.10 role behind the striker but he is played out of position. At times it looks like players don’t have clear-cut instructions, Lampard’s team selection has been questionable, alleged favouritism towards Mount, etc. there are many issues.
If Chelsea wants to give him time then they must give him time for two more seasons, because eventually he will get there, otherwise they should sack him now. While the options mentioned above are good but not good enough. Though Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel’s teams play attacking football, both of them are yet to win anything substantive.
They need a more experienced option, Laurent Blanc will be the best choice. He is experienced, his teams play attacking football and he has won league titles with weaker teams. Luis Enrique is also a good option but he won’t leave Spain so early. Thus Laurent Blanc is the perfect manager for Chelsea, he is the man to get the best out of this squad.
