‘I’ve never played that way and I hate it’ — Lukaku finally reveals he hates the way Tuchel is using him
Following Chelsea’s inability to find space for Lukaku, Conte insisted that Chelsea were using Lukaku wrongly.
However, Lukaku had scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter, and Conte said of his former player: “A coach is good if he can improve players. I think we did great work with Romelu over two years.
“If you have a centre-forward like that, you need to use him and I don’t think Chelsea have quite figured out how to use him yet.”
Lukaku started his Chelsea career with a bang as he scored four goals in his first four games for Chelsea, but hasn’t scored since then.
However, The 28-year-old has now admitted that he doesn’t like playing as a target man, but loves to drive with the ball.
“The way I’m built – I’m quite big – everybody thinks I’m a sort of target man; just holding up the ball and being a goal poacher,” the Belgium international told UEFA’s official website.
“But I’ve never played that way and I hate it.
“My biggest strength is that I’m dangerous when I’m facing towards the goal because that’s when I rarely make wrong choices.
“After I pass the ball, I know where I have to position myself in the box.
“I can do a bit of everything and in some games when I know there is a lot of space behind the defence, I play differently.
“The reason I’m so productive [in front of goal] is because I can do a bit of everything.”
