“I don’t think we played well, but this happened” – David Moyes finally reveals why West Ham beat Chelsea 3-2
Chelsea dominated the first 45 minutes of the game, but an awkward error led to West Ham scoring from the penalty.
However, the Blues were stunned by West Ham at the London Stadium, as the Hammers came from behind twice and ended up beating Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
The Hammers would eventually draw level again in the second half half, after Mason Mount scored just before half-time to restore Chelsea’s lead.
A late fluke goal from Arthur Masuaku deceived Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who punched the ball into his own net to seal a surprise victory for West Ham.
Speaking after the game, David Moyes admitted his side didn’t play well but did enough to win the game by scoring goals.
“Truthfully, I didn’t think we played that well today,” Moyes admitted on BT Sport.
“But we got the goals against a team who don’t concede many, which is great credit to the lads.
“We were much better in the second half. We were too passive and submissive in the first half.
“Their quality – that’s why they are European Champions because of the level they can play at. Whether you press them or stay off them, they are very good at both.”
