“Last season in December, this also happens” – Cesar Azpilicueta reveals how Chelsea plan to stop latest Chelsea poor run
Following Chelsea’s 3-3 draw against Zenit Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta reveals the Blues boys are not happy with the results, and also claimed they knew about their recent poor form.
The captain also claimed this bad form also happened last season in December after topping the league, we also have a bad run, as the Spanish international says is time to stop such run at Chelsea.
However, captain Cesar Azpilicueta says ‘we have to sort this problem out’.
Cesar Azpilicueta said after the Zenit game: “We know a draw isn’t good enough and finishing second isn’t good enough. The last couple of games haven’t been good and the results have been reflective of the performances.”
“We have to have a reaction. We lost the top spot in the Premier League, top spot in the Champions League. We have to face the reality and analyse ourselves.
“We are normally a team that is solid and doesn’t concede many chances. In the last games we’ve conceded six goals and that’s not good enough.
“Hopefully we can improve from Saturday because it’s been a key part of our success.
“Every time we try to work out best and it’s true that today isn’t our best game. In football you have to accept, analyse on the training pitch and then try to get the best of everyone.
“We are making a lot of mistakes and need to recover the intensity and solidity. We are conceding too many chances and the key to our success was to not concede chances and be ruthless. We need to recover this.
“It’s true that at Chelsea you don’t need many defeats in a row to call it a bad period or a crisis. It’s part of this club’s ambition to be at the top.
“Last season in December, we were top of the league and group and then we had a bad run of results. We need everybody to give that extra percent as a team and individuals.”
Chelsea have drawn 3-3 against Zenit. The disappointing draw comes after a loss against West Ham.
The Blues have finished second in their Champions League group. They have dropped to third place in the Premier League standings.
There is certainly a lot of work to be done to get back to winning ways. But it’s nice to see that the players understand the task ahead of them.
