BREAKING: Mendy set to miss first AFCON clash after latest development
Edouard Mendy has since left Chelsea to join Senegal for the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
However, The Chelsea goalkeeper has now tested positive for Covid, according to Senegalese media outlet Taggat.
Senegal are set to play Zimbabwe in the Group B opener on Monday, and the 29-year-old will not be available for the clash.
According to reports, there has been an outbreak in the Senegal team, with some other players self-isolating. Mendy as well as captain Kalidou Koulibaly and striker Famara Diedhiou are all going to miss Senegal’s opening clash after testing positive to Covid.
Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse said of the recent development: “It’s a difficult and complicated situation.
“But we are going to be competitive and those there are going to play for those who are absent.
“We are still going into the game against Zimbabwe full of confidence.”
