Blues to confirm player’s new deal next week, as Chelsea backed to replace Lukaku with £68 million Seria A star

The current contract of the 18 year old expires next year and the Blues were keen on securing his long-term future at the club.

Humphreys has reportedly agreed terms on a two-and-a-half-year deal which will keep him at the club until 2024. There is also an option included that can trigger another 12 months on his contract.

Chelsea were keen to get Humphreys to sign before the summer after losing some of our best academy talent last summer after they refused to sign contract extensions when they had one year remaining. Tino Livramento, now starring for Southampton, was the most high profile, but Lewis Bate and Myles Peart-Harris left too.

The Athletic adds Chelsea are determined to avoid a repeat with others in the camp and it is believed talks with Humphreys went smoothly.

Chelsea have been backed to re-sign £68million Tammy Abraham in the future to make up for the current Romelu Lukaku mistake.

The club made the big decision in the summer to offload their academy graduate to Jose Mourinho in favour of using the £34million plus more to re-sign Lukaku, who established himself as the most dangerous striker in Italian football.

But his move has not quite worked out as mixed success with the infamous Sky Italia interview and his FIFA Club World Cup adventure telling the Belgian’s story so far on his Stamford Bridge homecoming.

He has not scored the goals that Thomas Tuchel would have liked and there has been alot of speculation in the media suggesting that the German boss is keen to bring in another forward.

Whilst Lukaku himself is still working to try and adapt to Thomas Tuchel’s system in west London, the clubs former number 9 has been thriving on the continent under a manager that wants him to become a ‘monster’ in front of goal.

Glen Johnson told bettingodds: “I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Tuchel or Chelsea eventually went on to re-sign Tammy Abraham.”

However, Lukaku is a world class striker that is one of the very best in the game, so the fact that he has struggled to adapt is strange. But even though Abraham has been brilliant at Roma, we cant see him back at the club

The club will probably add a striker to the squad in the coming transfer window and it will be interesting to see just who they sign. But Abraham is a man that we do not see back at the club anytime soon

But you never know, we did not expect to see Lukaku make the move back to the Premier League and the Bridge
