UCL: Tuchel confirms Chelsea duo could return for Lille clash

Ahead of Champions League clash against Lille, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided an early injury update.

However, several players were absent for Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

Tuchel confirmed before kick-off against Crystal Palace that Azpilicueta and Hudson-Odoi were ruled out at the last minute through injury.

Mount suffered an injury against Palmeiras in the Club World Cup final while Ben Chilwell and Reece James have been out injured since last year

Tuchel said: “We did not like that Azpi and Callum were out at the last minute but that’s how it is.”

Tuchel has confirmed Azpilicueta and Mount may return for Tuesday’s Champions League game against Lille at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel told Chelsea TV: “We will push for Azpi, of course, and we will push for Mason [Mount].”

“But [for] Mason, [it is] maybe a bit too early.

“I don’t think [he] will make it. But we will try, then let’s see.”
