‘A £100m package? – Kai Havertz sends massive message to Lukaku after replacing him as a false 9
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel dropped the Belgium international and started Havertz as the central striker against Lille following Lukaku’s poor form.
However, Kai Havertz has sent a message of support to Romelu Lukaku after replacing the striker in Chelsea’s starting XI.
Kai Havertz said: “I know this feeling.”
“When you come to a club with a £100m package and everyone wants you to perform from the first to the last minute in a game. It is not easy to go into a game and score two or three goals.
“We are all human, everyone makes mistakes, but apart from that I think we are being a little bit too hard on Rom.
“You cannot forget he scored in the semi-final and the final of the Club World Cup, goals which were huge for us.
“Even though everyone keeps saying ‘He’s not scoring, he’s not scoring’ he has the most goals in our squad.
“It’s not too bad but everyone is always putting pressure on the big players, players who cost a lot of money.”
Lukaku has 10 goals in 28 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions but has only netted in two out of 14 Premier League matches he has played in since the start of September. Havertz, meanwhile, has not netted a league goal since the start of November.
