‘It’s the right decision! Alan Shearer finally reveals why Abramovich made the right decision to sell Chelsea
Roman Abramovich confirmed on Wednesday evening that he’s in the process of selling Chelsea Football Club.
However, The decision to sell Chelsea was made following criticism the Chelsea owner has received due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes Abramovich has made the right decision to sell Chelsea.
Shearer said: “He does feel uncomfortable when he has to answer those questions but it’s nothing compared to what people are facing in Ukraine. It is the right decision. We’re all watching the news, the players are watching the news.”
Meanwhile, Abramovich has pledged to wipe out the £1.5billion loan Chelsea owes him as well as divert proceeds to aid those suffering from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Roman Abramovich said in a statement released by Chelsea: “The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process.”
“I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club.
“Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated.
“The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.”
