“This is the turnaround point for him” – Tuchel finally believes change of system could be turning point for Chelsea man

According to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, Timo Werner’s new role in a more flexible frontline could be the turning point in his Chelsea career.

However, The German man had been in and out of the side this season through a combination of poor form and injury and has only scored 10 club goals in 31 appearances.

But he has started the past three games – including Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Crystal Palace at Wembley, scoring twice against Southampton and also netting against Real Madrid.

“We had a bit of a change in formation up front so he played against Southampton alongside Kai, with Mason and Kova around him,” Tuchel said after goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount earned an FA Cup final appearance against Liverpool next month.

“Maybe this was the turnaround point for him.

“He scored and had big chances and was decisive in Madrid and could have been the hero with the third goal but unfortunately not. He was involved, he scored and created chances and spaces and did that again today.

“It was very hard to find spaces against Crystal Palace and hard to be decisive but he assisted the second goal.”
