BREAKING: Chelsea announce four players departure after Rudiger’s exit
Andreas Christensen is one of the players that will be departing Chelsea for the 2022/23 season, according to the club’s retained and released list.
Christensen’s summer exit had been predicted for some time, with 90min stating in March that he would join Barcelona when his contract expired.
Chelsea had been optimistic about re-signing the Dane, but he had consistently turned down their offers. This, along with his apparent refusal to play in Liverpool’s FA Cup final defeat last month, means he leaves his boyhood club under a shadow.
Christensen isn’t the only Chelsea player going this summer. Danny Drinkwater has also been released by the team after failing to make an effect. Drinkwater joined for £35 million in 2017 and only made 23 appearances in all competitions.
He attempted to rebuild his career with a run of disappointing loan spells near the end of his time in west London, most notably with Championship side Reading.
Charly Musonda has also been released after making just seven first-team appearances since joining the club from the academy.
Jake Clarke-Salter, who has been with the club for 16 years, rounds out the departees. The 24-year-old has had six loan spells with Chelsea and has performed admirably for Coventry City this season.
