Report: £60m man could be “first marquee signing of the new era” at Chelsea
According to a report in the Evening Standard today, Raheem Sterling might be Chelsea’s “first marquee signing of the new era.”
They point out the £200 million in spending statistics that were mentioned not long ago and assert that now that Romelu Lukaku’s departure has been confirmed, the club can concentrate on finding a replacement.
After writing about the £100 million Lukaku price for weeks, Manchester City’s £60 million asking price for Sterling seems like a good deal. Given that the winger “is thought to be receptive to the notion of returning to London,” if Chelsea are satisfied with that, it might all happen very quickly.
However, given that Sterling isn’t a striker, it is highly likely that one of Chelsea’s current winger alternatives will be moved to create way for him.
Even if the sale is completed for £60 million, there would still be £140 million left over from the reported budget. At Stamford Bridge, things are about to get very exciting.
