Real reason why Todd Boehly took over from Marina as club director finally revealed
In the scramble to make signings, Chelsea appears to be far behind.
To the dismay of Chelsea supporters, a number of players have been linked to the Blues, but no deal has been finalized as of yet.
However, Chelsea supporters may be perplexed as to why Marina Granovskaia was replaced as the team’s sporting director by new owner Todd Boehly.
The Athletic claims that as soon as Todd Boehly became the club’s owner, he “sidelined” former Chelsea sporting director Marina Granovskaia.
There had been rumors that Boehly might want to work with Marina, but after he assumed charge, that didn’t happen.
For more than a decade, Marina served as Roman Abramovich’s right-hand woman, but Boehly believed the club needed to take a different turn.
Boehly created a “streamlined decision-making framework” that is more in line with the direction of the new ownership since the club needed to change course.
It was obvious that Boehly and Marina wouldn’t get along because of their divergent opinions on Romelu Lukaku.
Boehly and Thomas Tuchel are reportedly in direct communication right now over the club’s summer transfer targets.
According to reports, Tuchel is more involved in the club’s affairs than nearly every other manager was during Roman Abramovich’s 19 years as owner.
Due to the penalties and ownership change, the club had already lagged in the transfer market, which contributed to the delay in signings.
