Confirmed: Chelsea make plans for ‘the next John Terry’ ahead of next season

This summer, Chelsea needs to bolster the unit’s defense.

However, The Chelsea team’s center defense requires the most improvement out of all the positions.

Given the age of Thiago Silva and the departure of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, the current backline appears to be rather thin.

The favored center-backs from the main team from last season are Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva, since Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta may also depart the club this summer.

Levi Colwill, a young defender for Chelsea, is expected to stay with the team when the new season begins.

The club holds a high regard for the 19-year-old center back, who excelled when playing for Huddersfield on loan last year.

The teenager will not go on another loan assignment, according to Chelsea news reporter Vince, who has been dubbed the future John Terry.

He tweeted: “Chelsea plan to keep Colwill in the squad. If he leaves, it’s because he wants to leave not because Chelsea didn’t created space for him.

“He has pre-season to make a statement that he deserves to start. However, if he plays 40% games by the end of the season, that’s a huge win.”

Meanwhile, Levi Colwill had admitted that he’s keen on staying back at Chelsea ahead of next season.

“There’s too much respect for me to close the door (on potential Huddersfield Town return next season),” Colwill told the Yorkshire Post ahead Huddersfield’s play-off final last season.

“We need to get promotion first, which is the only thing I’m thinking of right now.

“I’m not planning for next year, all I can focus on right now is Wembley on Sunday and then the internationals after that. After when I’ve finished all of that, well that’s when I’ll start thinking about that.

“For me, playing for Chelsea will always be the main aim right now because it’s my club. But if that doesn’t happen, well then I have to find other ways to progress and become the player I want to be.”
