“He won’t be available because of his behaviour”– Brendan Rodgers rules out player out of Chelsea clash
Wesley Fofana, a defender for Leicester City, has come under fire from manager Brendan Rodgers for pushing for a transfer to Chelsea.
It remains to be known if Chelsea would make another offer for the young defender after having three bids for him rejected.
Fofana’s asking price from Leicester City is a staggering £80 million, a sum that Chelsea is unwilling to match.
For their Saturday match against Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers has ruled out Fofana after criticizing the teenage defender’s actions.
Asked if Fofana will feature against Chelsea at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Rodgers replied: “He won’t be available for the weekend. He has trained with our Under-23 squad.”
Probed on how similar the situation is to Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United in 2019, Rodgers insisted that Maguire acted more professionally.
He explained: “No, it was totally different. I was aware over the course of the summer that there was a possibility that could happen.
“Harry in terms of his behaviour and his focus for the club, he was fantastic right until the last minute he was with the team and with the squad and then he moved on. So no, it is different.
“Over the seasons here we’ve lost obviously Ben Chilwell as well, but this [Fofana situation] unfortunately is just a little bit different. But our focus is with the team and the players that are available.”
On whether he expects Chelsea to return with a fourth bid for Fofana after three rejected bids, Rodgers continued: “I’m not sure. It’s not my concentration. I can’t lose energy thinking so much about it.
“It’ll be between the clubs. We have to continue to work with what we have.”
