Jose Mourinho to lure 23-year-old Chelsea star as Blues ready to break transfer record fee to sign Bundesliga playmaker
According to latest reports, AS Roma are reportedly lining up a January loan move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
The 23-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with a switch away from Stamford Bridge over the summer, however, the window closed with the defender remaining in London.
Chalobah has another four years left to run on his current deal with the West London club, having signed a new deal last November, however, there is currently uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.
The ex-England Under-21s international has only featured once this term, playing the full 90 minutes against Leicester City in the English top-tier on August 27.
Chalobah was also an unused substitute against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League last week, which proved to be Graham Potter’s first match in charge of the team.
According to Football Transfers, the 23-year-old star is likely to depart from the Blues on loan during the January window, and AS Roma are currently at the head of the queue for his services, with the Italian giants head coach Jose Mourinho keen on a deal.
The report suggests that Aston Villa had been interested in his services over the summer, however, Steven Gerrard’s side are no longer in the running, with AS Roma the front runners at this stage.
Inter Milan and AC Milan are also believed to have looked at signing Chalobah during the recent transfer window before moving on to other targets.
Blues ready to break transfer record fee to sign Bundesliga playmaker
Chelsea are reportedly the latest team to join Man Utd and Liverpool in the race to add Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
The 19-year-old playmaker has elevated his game to new heights since joining the Bundesliga team from Birmingham City in 2020, and he has emerged as one of the best young prospects in Europe.
A recent report claims that Man United are in a strong position to sign the £100m-rated midfielder, while another states that Liverpool are currently ahead of the Red Devils in the race for his signature. However, both clubs could now face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, with The Sun reporting that they are lining up a big-money move for the teenager next summer.
The West Londoners were the biggest spenders in the most recent transfer window, recruiting nine players for a combined fee in excess of £250m.
Defender Wesley Fofana was the Blues most expensive addition at around £70m, while Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were also big-name additions made by new co-owner Todd Boehly.
The American billionaire has now identified 19-year-old Dortmund star as one of his next targets, while newly-appointed head coach Potter is also believed to be an admirer of the midfielder.
A potential move for Bellingham would likely see the Blues break their transfer record, which currently stands at the £97.5m that they paid for Belgian forward, Romelu Lukaku just over 12 months ago.
