“A pain in his groin” – Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
After Chelsea’s Premier League match with Aston Villa, manager Mauricio Pochettino of Chelsea has revealed that Thiago Silva has sustained a new injury.
Last night, the Blues defeated the Villans 2-2 on the road in a thrilling comeback draw. They won it late, but VAR disallowed it because of a foul.
Silva had a groin injury, which Pochettino confirmed after the game. This injury is comparable to one Silva suffered against Crystal Palace in February of this year.
He said: “A pain in his groin. Similar to the injury he got at Crystal Palace.”
Silva has been a key player for the Blues over the past four years, but he is expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
The 39-year-old has already made the decision and it could be made official during the final or penultimate week of the Premier League campaign.
The Blues are likely to pursue a quality replacement in the transfer market this summer. Aside from Silva, Trevoh Chalobah could be offloaded.
