After Willian’s flop, Manchester United afraid of signing Chelsea star
According to latest reports, Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, whose contract winds up in a year’s time.
However, Manchester United’s new boss Erik ten Hag is keen on strengthening his midfield this summer, with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba departing the club.
According to a report by The Telegraph, United hierarchy are growing cold feet about pushing for Kante, and would rather go for a younger midfielder.
31-year-old Kante has become injury prone in recent years, and United see his transfer as a risk, the report claims.
It further adds that Arsenal’s decision to sign Willian on a free transfer from Chelsea has been cited around Old Trafford as an example of the ‘pitfalls’ associated with signing high-profile, veteran players on big wages.
Willian was signed on a three-year deal worth around £240,000-a-week, and was one of Arsenal’s highest paid players, but left the club just 12 months into his contract by mutual consent.
Willian’s performance for the Gunners was far from productive, as he scored one goal in 16 Premier League matches.
