‘Alonso continues to flop! as Tuchel finally reveals whether Chelsea may sign a replacement for Injured Ben Chilwell in January

As we all know Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has been out injured since the 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League clash last month.

The Chelsea left wing-back has been very impressive this season, but his injury has been a cause for concern.

Chelsea have hopes that Chilwell will return to action next month, but all that is dependent on whether the England international will require surgery. Not requiring surgery would be a major positive for the 25-year-old, as an ACL surgery would surely rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is upbeat that Chilwell will be back soon and has not yet considered signing a new left-back to act as cover, as Marcos Alonso is yet to get back to his early season form.

Asked to give an update on Chilwell’s condition and if the Blues will try to strengthen that position in January, Tuchel said: “Having a look at players and it being possible to get them in winter, there’s a big gap between these two situations.

“The best option would be that Ben continues his positive evaluation. He is in a good place mentally and physically. He did some running. Everything looks good, so hopes are still up [of not requiring surgery and a quick return]. But we cannot confirm it.

“First, we be sure what we do with Ben. We’re still there. Then we decide if we go for internal solutions and if we trust that we can overcome this period. Everything depends on Ben Chilwell and how long he is out.”
