Am ready to join Chelsea if they can meet this one condition – Kylian Mbappe tells Todd Boehly
PSG star Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told Chelsea he will sign for the club this summer – but only if they meet one non-negotiable which owner Todd Boehly has baulked at.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are determined to move Mbappe on for serious cash this summer having been left furious by his refusal to trigger a one-year contract extension. They fielded a world-record bid worth almost £260m from Saudi Arabia who were ready to offer him eye-watering wages to spend one year in the Middle East. After he declined Al-Hilal’s advances, Record Sport revealed Chelsea were ready to go to the table and offer him an alternative route out of the French capital.
Meanwhile, according to latest reports via Sport, are reporting that he is willing to negotiate with Chelsea and is open to joining the Premier League club. Complicating matters though is his determination to join Real Madrid on a free in 12 months. It’s claimed wherever Mbappe goes next, he won’t sign any more than a one-year contract to keep that option open next summer.
And it’s believed he’s communicated that to Chelsea, where the Stamford Bridge club are refusing to meet his demand. Chelsea had planned to offer PSG a player-plus-cash deal to keep the price down for Mbappe but even if it is one of their more valuable and salary-consuming assets heading to Paris, such as Romelu Lukaku or Raheem Sterling, Mbappe would still cost them north of £100m. And that’s before his stratospheric wages which would likely take him into the £2m-per-month bracket and make him one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players.
That’s too much for Chelsea to spend on a player only to inherit the unenviable position PSG find themselves in. As things stand, Mbappe is laid back about the situation and content to run down his contract to force a free transfer to Real next summer.
PSG are believed to have told Mbappe he won’t be training with the senior squad if he does hang around. So it looks like a case of who blinks first.
