Pochettino welcomes powerhouse to Chelsea – sends clear message to fans

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed new Chelsea signing Lesley Ugochukwu will be assessed after his move to Stamford Bridge was confirmed.

The young star has now agreed a massive seven year contract at Stamford Bridge after the board made the decision to pay £23.8 million and complete the transfer.

And after seeing the player make the move to London – Pochettino has opened up and confirmed that he will assess Ugochukwu over the next few weeks before making a decision on whether or not he will be part of the immediate plans.

‘Today is going to be his first training session with us. He is a young and talented player. We don’t know if we have the possibility for him to play tomorrow but we will assess him.

‘Now it is time to assess him until the end of the transfer window, and see if he is going to be with us or go on loan.

Pochettino was also pressed on whether he is happy with the current state of his Blues squad: ‘I am happy with how the club is working, us included. We are working hard to try to finish the squad as soon as possible. But we all understand that maybe during the last few weeks of the transfer window, things are going to happen,’ he said.

‘It is always better to have everything closed before. But not only for us, every other club too. It is important to close the squad in the way that we want.’

Jonathan Johnson has claimed that Chelsea have signed one of the best talents in Ligue 1, He said: “Absolutely. Ugochukwu is one of the top prospects in Ligue 1. He’s really impressed with Rennes this last season. It’s obviously disappointing to see a player with such potential potentially leaving but the fact that he might be loaned back to Strasbourg I think would probably be the best thing for his development at this moment in time.

“A player with phenomenal potential. I don’t think it would have been beyond the realms of possibility that he would have stayed at Chelsea and perhaps had a squad role, but I think in terms of his development, and certainly what we’ve seen from him across the last 12-18 months, it makes the most sense for him to be at Strasbourg.

“Getting regular minutes for them this season and then for Mauricio Pochettino and CHELSEA to reassess next summer.”
