Amazing! Chelsea just make £41million from the Champions League this season before playing first game
According to latest reports, Chelsea have already made £41million from the Champions League this season before playing our first game in the competition on Tuesday against Zenit.
Chelsea already have a guaranteed £41million from the Champions League this season due to having the fourth-highest coefficient, based on performances in the past 10 years, among the 32 clubs involved.
Only Real Madrid (£44million), Bayern Munich (£43million) and Barcelona (£42million) have earned more than Chelsea this season due to having a higher coefficient than Chelsea.
Chelsea would be hoping to start this season’s Champions League with a victory on Tuesday as a group stage win will be worth €2.8million. A draw in the group stage will be worth €930,000 this season. Progressing into the round of 16 will lead to a €9.6m bonus.
Reaching the quarter-finals earns an additional €10.6m with €12.5m for the last four. Finalists then get €15.5m and a bonus of €4.5m is on offer to the champions – the same figure as last season.
Clubs also share a €300m market pool, the money from broadcasting rights across the world, with Chelsea entitled to only 10% of the Premier League’s share because we finished fourth in the table last season. Manchester City will get 40% of the Premier League share for winning the league last season.
