Are Chelsea fans ready for new arrival? Abramovich was courting world class Italian
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly ‘courting Massimiliano Allegri’ as a managerial replacement for Frank Lampard.
We all know that Abramovich fully backed Lampard in the transfer window and gave the club legend over £200 million to bring in players such as Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and striker Timo Werner.
However, he has not had the best of starts to the new season in the Premier League, and is failing to get the results that many expected he would with the players that he signed during the transfer window.
And according to Italian outlet Quotidano Sportivo, Our owner is lining up the Italian tactician as he ‘wants to win’ and won’t let sentiment stop him if he feels the Blues needs a change in management.
Allegri is still a free agent after leaving Juventus just a couple of seasons ago and would be very interested in making the move to the Premier League, where he would pit his wits with some of the best managers in the game.
Former striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is adamant they cannot be considered contenders for the Premier League crown due to their frailties at the back.
“No, Chelsea are not contenders [for the title],” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.
“They are leaking too many goals. It is a breath of fresh air to see them going forward with the likes of Mason Mount and [Timo] Werner.
“But the defence is a worry, if they cannot improve the centre-backs and goalkeeper it is a concern. Alisson wins Liverpool points, but that doesn’t happen with Kepa. Chelsea need to improve in that area.”
