Tammy Abraham receives ‘strong’ Timo Werner message after West ham defeat

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard introduced Tammy Abraham to the starting line-up to face West Ham, as the Blues boss decided to start Tammy Abraham ahead of Olivier Giroud for this London derby fixture.

Chelsea lost the game 3-2, and Abraham who has struggled since the start of the year, failed to perform yet again.

Abraham might have to play second fiddle to goal machine Timo Werner who officially became a Chelsea player on July 1, and Blues legend Ashley Cole believes that the signing of the prolific German can serve as a wakeup call to Tammy Abraham.

Asked whether Chelsea’s deal for Werner will ‘spur on’ Abraham and improve him as a player, Cole told Sky Sports: “I hope so. ‘To have competition is healthy and they [Chelsea] won’t be so reliant on Tammy and [Olivier] Giroud now.

“I’ve never been in that position but when you get top players in, you learn from them. That’s important.

“He will develop and get better and have a little more hunger to play. I don’t think it will harm him.

“Hopefully it will make him a better player.”
