Barcelona eager to sign £110,000-a-week Chelsea midfielder as Blues planning shock move move for No.7 Belgium international
Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been linked to a move to Barcelona, but Graham Potter may step in to prevent that from happening. In order to bring in the Italian international during the winter transfer window, the Catalan giants are monitoring his contract situation.
However, The 30-year-old midfielder joined the Blues from Napoli in 2018, and he is approaching 200 games for them. While playing for the London club, the Italian midfielder won the Champions League and the Europa League. He is still an important member of Chelsea’s squad.
However, the Italian is in the final year of his contract and the Blaugrana might reach an agreement on a pre-contract with the player in the coming months and sign him for free. According to reports, Jorginho is being considered as a possible replacement for Busquets, a hero of the Nou Camp who has appeared in 685 games for La Liga powerhouses since 2008.
The former Napoli midfielder played 90 minutes of Graham Potter’s first game in charge of the Blues as the London giants drew 1-1 with RB Salzburg in the UCL. It stays to be seen whether Graham Potter views Jorginho as one of his influential footballers going forward.
If so, the ex-Brighton boss may put pressure on the Blues to hand him a new contract and block a move to Barcelona, who signed Christensen and Alonso from the London giants over the summer. Jorginho became the first Chelsea footballer to speak out following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking and Graham Potter’s arrival at London club.
Blues planning shock move move for No.7 Belgium international
According to latest reports, Chelsea are reportedly interested in a potential move to bring Eden Hazard back to London club from Real Madrid. Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the 31-year-old attacker, though the Blues are tipped as being in a stronger position for this deal.
Eden has struggled in his time at Santiago Bernabeu, never quite looking the same footballer he did when he lit up the PL in the blue of Chelsea. It could be that La Liga giants will now be set to offload Hazard and the Blues would like to bring him back for a second spell.
It’s fair to say the London giants never really replaced Belgium international, with additions like Pulisic and Ziyech struggling since moving to Chelsea in the last few years. Still, the Blues should probably look forward rather than back, with the Belgian forward surely now past his best.
The Belgian just doesn’t look to have the same influence on games anymore, while he’s also had more problems with injuries in recent times. The London giants can surely aim a little higher, even if many fans would no doubt love to see this club legend back.
Newcastle United might do well to take a gamble on Eden as he’s more likely to represent an upgrade on what they have already. The Blues’ slow start to their Champions League campaign continued on Wednesday, as they slumped to a 1-1 against with RB Salzburg in Graham Potter’s first match in charge.
