On Tuesday the news broke up that Chelsea have contacted Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer of 20 year old midfielder Kai Havertz.
Havertz is widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe and has attracted strong interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The German club have now reacted to Chelsea’s interest in signing the 20 year old midfielder.
According to Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller, the German club has not given up on keeping Havertz this summer despite Chelsea’s move to sign the 20 year old.
“We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,” Voller told ARD. “We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities. “He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season.”
Bayer Leverkusen reportedly want £89 million for the midfielder but Chelsea are hoping £70 million will be enough to sign the midfielder.
Havertz has been a pivotal part of Leverkusen’s season with 15 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.
