Bayern agreed five-year deal with Chelsea top target, Blues given green light to sign €50-rated German defender, as fans react to player heading to Chelsea in £400,000-a-week deal..in Chelsea247 roundup news.

Bayern Munich have announced the signing of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The Bundesliga champions’ chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed earlier this month that they were battling Liverpool and Chelsea to sign the French defender.

But the German side have dealt a severe blow to the Premier League duo by confirming the signing of the 22-year-old France international – who has agreed a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena – ahead of next season.

“I can confirm and we are very happy about that at FC Bayern,” Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told BILD after they activated the release clause in Upamecano’s contract.

“We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth for several months.

“We knew we had very tough competition. Upamecano is a young player, 22, whose qualities are already exceptionally developed.

“I was always convinced that we had with a good concept. We presented him with our vision of his career at FC Bayern.

“During the past week I spoke to everyone involved again. At the end of a long process, the player, his family and his management were convinced that FC Bayern was the right partner for them.”

Chelsea given green light to sign €50-rated German defender Niklas Sule as Upamecano alternatives.

Chelsea new boss Thomas Tuchel have identified Niklas Sule as a possible option in this area and initial discussions are underway with the defender’s representatives.

Niklas has won three back-to-back league titles with Bavarians since arriving from Hoffenheim in 2017 and lifted the UCL title after a substitute appearance in the club’s victory over PSG last August.

But doubts have been raised over Germany international’s future given he’s out of deal in 2022 and has struggled for regular minutes at Bayern this campaign, making just eight starts for the Bavarians in the Bundesliga. Asked directly at his press conference, Flick replied: ‘It is of course also nice for us when other clubs are interested in our players.’

‘At the moment, the defence is doing very well and Niklas is definitely an option, both in central defence and as a full-back.’ And while widespread rumours suggest the German centre-back is among those deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern, Flick insisted he was ‘glad’ to have the 25-year-old defender in his ranks.

It’s understood Bavarians could be tempted to listen to offers starting at nearly €30m or Niklas in the summer and the out-of-favor centre-half is open to the idea of a switch to England which could work in Blues favour.

Chelsea fans react to reports that defender could be on his way in £400,000-a-week deal

Chelsea Fans have had their say as to whether or not David Alaba would be a good signing for Chelsea in the summer.

Regarded as one of the finest left-backs in world football right now, has won countless trophies at Bayern, and a man that could walk into most sides in world football, Alaba is on the market for free in the summer.

He does not intend to sign a new contract at Bayern, despite the fact that they have offered him a new deal, and it seems that a move to La Liga or the Premier League will be the one that the defender makes.

But amid the speculation, Glen Johnson came out and told the club why they should sign Alaba, he said: ‘If they’re going to play with wing-backs he would be the ideal man because he’s an unbelievably good athlete and could play on the left of a back three or as a left wing-back.

‘Alaba could fit at Liverpool, but as we’ve seen with big-money defenders, Manchester City are the club that normally do that. If anybody needed him to slot into their formation right now that would be Chelsea.

“I don’t think he should be walking into a club where he’s the highest paid player. Because he’s out of contract I’m sure he’s trying to get a few big teams to come to the table and go to war over him.

‘I think every manager thinks differently and has their views on players that they prefer to sign. I think Tuchel will want to bring some players in and I think his number on target will be a striker, just like every team.’

But do fans agree? we asked that question and got a response from fans as to whether or not he would be a good signing, here is what some of those fans had to say.

One fan said: ‘We love Chilwell, he was a brilliant signing, but how could you turn down the chance to sign Alaba?

another added: ‘One of the best in world football and a player that would cost £50 million to sign, the chance to sign him is there and considering we are struggling with left-backs at the club, he would be a world class signing’
