Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and even Bayern Munich were linked with RB Leipzig’s striker Timo Werner, but it was Chelsea who eventually won the race for the 24-year-old German international.
Chelsea jumped protocols as the Blues moved to trigger the £49 million release clause in Timo Werner’s contract at RB Leipzig that runs until the summer of 2023.
Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has conceded defeat and made the classy move to congratulate Chelsea for winning the race to sign Timo Werner.
“This is a decision Timo made. And you have to respect that, everything is okay,” Flick told reporters on Friday.
“Timo is a very good player, also a player who scores. Chelsea made a very good commitment if that’s the case.”
According to reports, Werner will put pen to paper on a five-year deal which will see him earn around £200,000 per week, becoming Chelsea’s second-highest paid player behind N’Golo Kante.
