Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that he didn’t always think he was cut out for management. Regarded as one of the finest players to ever grace the game, and Chelsea all-time leading goal-scorer, Lampard decided to make the decision to try himself as a manager in the game when he took over Derby last season.

His performances as boss, his tactical decisions and the fact that he demanded respect from players meant that it did not take long for Chelsea to come calling, and after getting rid of Maurizio Sarri, he took over his beloved Chelsea.

Many have doubted whether he can get the side back to the very top of the game, but he has put together a young, exciting side that is attracting all sorts of interest, and with his Chelsea side in the hunt for a top four spot, he could exceed all expectations this season.

However, he has come out and admitted that he did not believe he had what it took to become a manager, the Chelsea boss said on the official website: “I wouldn’t say players spoke about it much.

“I think players tend to be very much in the moment and I probably was like that to a degree as well. “I wouldn’t have sat there and spoken too much with other players about it, and some of my former team-mates who have gone into management have surprised me.

“I’ve read that some others are surprised I’ve done it, because of how I was as a player.

“I wasn’t always hugely vocal in the dressing room as vice-captain, I wasn’t expected to be, because of the attributes John [Terry] had and the slightly different ones I had.”

Look, Lampard still has alot of learning to do as a manager and he is pretty much learning on the job, but he has proven himself in the best League in the world with a squad that needs alot of work. If he is given the time and patience, he may get things right, and with a few signings, could be winning trophies as a manager with Chelsea too.
