Chelsea have been linked with Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes, and reports claim that the Blues could sign him up for free during the summer.
The 19-year-old’s contract runs out in the summer, and United are only willing to offer him £25,000-a-week in a bid to keep him at the club. However, his representatives believe that the offer is too poor for the highly rated midfielder.
Gomes is yet to break into the Manchester United first team but is rated highly by the club, but the club aren’t keen to spend beyond £25,000-a-week wages to keep him at Old Trafford.
Gomes has made just six appearances so far for United and Chelsea are tempting him with a move to the Bridge, with assurances of more playing time.
According to Metro, Chelsea are keen to capitalise on Gomes’ situation at Manchester United and the Blues believe that the opportunity to play more could tempting for Gomes who has seen lesser playing opportunities compared to fellow Manchester United academy graduates Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Brandon Williams.
Chelsea have a business model in recent years that has been built around snapping up the best young British talent and Gomes, who captained England’s U19s to World Cup glory in 2018, suits that frame.
