BREAKING: Chelsea reach agreement with Italian side over winger’s buyback clause

Chelsea sold Jeremie Boga to Sassuolo last summer for just €5.5m after a successful year on loan, and inevitably the winger suddenly took his game to the next level.

Luckily, for once the Blues had included a buy-back clause, and can reclaim him for just €8m.

Those figures come from Gianluca Di Marzio, who now writes that the Blues have agreed to remove it – at a price.

It saves both clubs time and unnecessary admin and costs. There’s no point buying back the 23 year old only to sell him on elsewhere, when we can simply allow the Serie A side to do it, and pass on a chunk of the profit.

Di Marzio says that now Sassuolo control Boga’s future they’re intending to keep him for another year, hopefully to grow his value further.

But whatever they sell him for, Chelsea have retained the right to match that sum and bring the Ivory coast winger back to the club in the future. Perhaps we’re learning how to manage all our young talents out on loan after all?
