BREAKING: Donald Trump reveals interest in buying Chelsea
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich released a statement confirming that he has put the club up for sale.
However, A number of potential businessmen have expressed interest in taking over at Chelsea, and 74-year-old New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is preparing a bid to buy Chelsea, according to reports.
According to ESPN, the American businessman – a long-time ally of former US President Donald Trump has signified interest in buying Chelsea, and is set to make an offer.
Johnson is said to have spoken to Raine Group, who are organising the bidding process, and seems upbeat about a takeover.
Johnson is believed to be a Chelsea fan and has a good knowledge of both Chelsea and the Premier League.
Johnson lived in London during his time as United States ambassador to the United Kingdom under Donald Trump, and it was then he took an interest in Chelsea.
If successful, Johnson would become the fourth NFL owner in the English top-flight, after Arsenal’s Stan Kroenke, the Glazer family at Manchester United, and Jed York, who has a minority share in Leeds.
