BREAKING: FA makes fresh decision on Anthony Taylor and Mike Dean
Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Chelsea, expressed displeasure with Anthony Taylor and Mike Dean’s officiating during the match against Tottenham.
Chelsea and Spurs fought to a 2-2 tie, and there were a few controversial calls, notable among them the alleged red card of Cristian Romero that Mike Dean, the VAR referee, failed to signal.
Tuchel questioned Mike Dean and Anthony Taylor, prompting the FA to prosecute him for his remarks.
A statement from the FA read: “Thomas Tuchel has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made after Chelsea FC’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022.
“It is alleged that the manager’s comments in his post-match press conference constitute improper conduct as contrary to FA Rule E3.1 they imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match referee, and/or bring the game into disrepute.
“Thomas Tuchel has until Thursday, 25 August 2022, to provide a response to this charge.”
On the aftermath of the decisions made by the FA, Anthony Taylor will face no sanctions as he handled the West Ham vs Brighton game last weekend, while Mike Dean was given the week off entirely.
Despite Tuchel’s calls for Anthony Taylor not to officiate Chelsea’s games, both Taylor and Mike Dean will undoubtedly officiate further Chelsea fixtures this term but this will not happen in gameweeks 4 and 5.
For Chelsea’s weekend clash against Leicester City, Paul Tierney has been chosen as the centre referee to officiate that game, while Andre Marriner will be in charge of controlling the VAR.
For Chelsea’s game away to Southampton, Michael Oliver has been handed the centre referee role, while Michael Salisbury has been appointed for the VAR.
