Willian is reportedly set to sign a new two-year deal with Chelsea. That is according to the Sun, a British-based tabloid.
The Brazilian winger is likely to benefit from two facts. First, the transfer ban means Chelsea are not very willing to let their players go as they cannot be replaced properly.
Second, the Blues seem to have scrapped their policy of offering only one-year contracts to players over 30.
Willian, who is 30, will be the second Brazilian after David Luiz to sign a longer deal.
The winger’s current deal expires in 12 months, so he will now be staying at Stamford Bridge for another year.
Willian is probably one of the happiest footballers right now, as he is currently preparing for Copa America with Brazil, something he did not plan for this summer.
Due to Neymar’s injury, and to a lot of confusion among the fans, Willian has been picked ahead of Spurs’ Lucas Moura and Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid.
The Brazilian’s new contract puts in doubt the future of Pedro who is also entering the final year of his deal.
Do you think Chelsea are making the right choice by offering a contract to Willian, but not to Pedro?
