Chelsea £100,000-a-week star open to leave club in January
Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has attempted to give his career a shot in the arm by releasing a highlights video of some of his triumphs over the years. England international joined Chelsea in September 2017 for £35m after being an integral figure in Leicester City’s remarkable PL trophy win.
However, his Blues career never really got off the ground, even in his first campaign at Chelsea Danny played only 12 PL games, five of which were starts. Since then Drinkwater has spent time out on loan at Burnley and Aston Villa, failing to make an impression at either club, with only one league game for the former and four for Villans.
The 30-year-old is now back at Chelsea but has not been assigned a squad number for the campaign and is limited to playing for the under-23 side, with nearly two years still left on his deal. In a bid to rescue his foundering career, he has commissioned a highlights package, showcasing his skills, which were excellent in his pomp, five years ago.
Danny has had several off-field problems that have hampered his career over the last few years, as well as a string of injuries.
However, Drinkwater admits he has had to change his lifestyle after a trio of embarrassments that saw him banned for drink driving, get involved in a fight in a nightclub and headbutt then Aston Villa teammate Jota in training.
‘I told myself that I needed to clean myself up big time. I must have taken a good look at myself s*** loads of times,’ the English midfielder said in September.
