Report: Chelsea and Inter Milan finally reach agreement of a player
Chelsea have reached a deal in principle with Inter Milan over Romelu Lukaku, according to a confirmed report by The Athletic.
Chelsea and Inter have agreed on a loan agreement for Romelu Lukaku, according to The Athletic — a €8 million (£6.8 million) loan price with add-ons to allow Lukaku to return to San Siro.
According to the source, Lukaku will have a medical next week before returning to the team he helped win the Serie A title with in the 2020-21 season.
Inter do not have an option to buy Lukaku after his loan period, thus he will return to Chelsea at the end of his one-year loan spell with the Serie A club.
Lukaku has also taken a pay cut to ensure the success of this arrangement. At Chelsea, the Belgian was making a whopping £325k each week.
Lukaku has a contract with Chelsea until 2026, and it’s unclear what will happen to him after his season-long loan with Inter is through.
Lukaku stunned everyone when he revealed his desire to return to Inter Milan in a tumultuous interview with Sky Italia in December.
He told Sky Italia: “I really hope with all my heart to be able to return to Inter one day and not at the end of my career.
“I would like to return when I am still at high levels to try to win even more with the Nerazzurri shirt.”
Lukaku also spoke ill of his situation under Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
He said: “However I cannot say that I am happy with the situation, this is normal. I think that Tuchel has chosen to play with another module and I just have to not give up, continue to work and be a professional.”
