Chelsea board makes ‘HUGE’ Frank Lampard decision following Manchester City defeat
Chelsea fall another defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, as the Blues were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City.
It was a very poor display from Chelsea, and at half-time, the scoreline was already 3-0, and it could easily have been more.
The pressure has been mounting on Frank Lampard before the game, as Chelsea had only won once in the past five games. Losing again to City meant Chelsea have now lost four of their last six games – a result that has seen Chelsea drop from 3rd in the league to 8th in a matter of weeks.
Chelsea have slipped far away from the title, and the Blues are further slipping away from the top four race – a position that Roman Abramovich won’t like.
According to reports, Chelsea weren’t really considering sacking before now, but were willing to let him run his contract out until the end of the season before making a decision on whether to extend his stay or employ another boss.
However, with the 3-1 loss to Manchester City, Frank Lampard is in danger of being sacked by Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, the Blues board are already looking at possible replacements for the coach after his side were beaten 3-1 at home to Manchester City.
Feelers from the club suggest that Lampard’s job is no longer safe, and the patience of the board has waned. Some reports even suggest that PSG quickly made the decision to fire Thomas Tuchel and appoint Mauricio Pochettino because of Chelsea’s likely interest in the Argentine, if Lampard was to get the boot.
The only way out now for Frank Lampard is to stop the rut and return the team to winning ways, or he may just be the next managerial casualty in the Premier League.
