Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is currently skipping training due to fears of contracting the coronavirus.
The club have publicly backed the midfielder’s decision following his health history but according to The Athletic’s Liam Twomey, Kante’s continued absence from the training ground might raise a few eyebrows, given that he is currently the highest-paid player in Chelsea’s ranks.
Twomey said: “In the long term, having the highest-paid player in the squad sitting out while healthy isn’t a tenable situation.”
Kante isn’t the only footballer to express reservations over returning to work amidst the pandemic, with Watford skipper Troy Deeney also skipping training.
Recent studies have revealed that black men and women are nearly twice as likely to die from Covid-19 as white people.
