According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are confident in signing Leicester City star Ben Chilwell this summer if they secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
The 23-year-old is said to be Frank Lampard’s priority left-back target as both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have failed to impress the Blues’ manager this season.
As things stand now, Chelsea sit in fourth in the Premier League table, five points behind third-placed Chilwell’s Foxes. There are nine games to be played this term with the Blues facing Leicester away on June 27.
The Champions League alone, however, might be not enough to snap up the England international as the Foxes won’t let him leave on the cheap.
Chilwell is now valued at €40m by Transfermarkt but the fact that he’s tied with Leicester until 2024 allows the East Midlands club to demand twice as much of that fee.
If the Blues eventually fail to agree Chilwell’s move to the Bridge, they’re set to turn their attention to Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico.
