Chelsea ‘contemplating’ late move for £150m duo at Chelsea
According to transfer insider Dean Jones, The Blues are contemplating a big-money transfer late in the window to strengthen their midfield with both Frenkie De Jong and Declan Rice being considered.
Thomas Tuchel has been a busy man this summer but can still strengthen his side ahead of the imminent September 1 deadline.
Chelsea have already signed two midfielders this summer in the form of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa and Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan.
Nevertheless, they are also understood to be ready to sign Barcelona midfielder De Jong if he were to become available.
De Jong has also been targeted by Manchester United this summer but would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge if he does leave the Camp Nou.
Rice too has been a long-term target of Chelsea’s, but West Ham have slapped a £150 million price tag on the England midfielder to scare off any potential suitors.
The 23-year-old was previously part of the Blues’ academy but was released as a teenager. West Ham, however, are attempting to tie Rice to a long-term future at the London Stadium, and reportedly offered him an eight-year contract back in May.
Jones understands that Chelsea could make a big-money midfield signing before the window closes at the start of next month.
The transfer insider says that both De Jong and Rice have been looked at and they are now contemplating who to move for.
However, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea have really been looking at their midfield and are still contemplating a big transfer in that area. Declan Rice and Frenkie De Jong are a couple of the players they have looked at and now they are studying which players might be on the table as we head into the last week of the window.”
