Back In 2017, Chelsea made a club record signing at the time, spending £60 million (as per the BBC) on a striker.
Alvaro Morata arrived from Real Madrid and Chelsea fans were excited. However, the Spanish striker flopped and ended up spending a lot of his time sulking and feeling sorry for himself. He returned to Spain to join Atletico Madrid on loan and his Chelsea nightmare was over.
At the same time as Morata arrived, Chelsea signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for £40 million (BBC). He followed the same fate – he flopped, and then left on loan.
So now Chelsea are left with an expensive couple of players that they spent £100 million on. They will never see anywhere near that return for these players now, surely?
Well, it looks like they might well be able to recoup most of what they spent on them, which will be nothing short of a miracle during a global pandemic.
But as per Marca, Ateltico Madrid will pay Chelsea the £47.8 million obligation to buy Morata from them this summer.
And as per Le10Sport (cited by The Daily Star), Chelsea are asking for £31 million for Bakayoko, with Paris Saint-Germain in talks to sign him. Marina Granovskaia masterclass? I think so!
