Chelsea duo to miss Euro games after latest decision, as Blues determined to agree deal for Croatian centre-back

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will miss tomorrow night’s England game against the Czech Republic because of their “close contact” with Billy Gilmour after the Scotland game on Saturday night.

The BBC are just now reporting the breaking news that the Chelsea pair won’t be available for selection for Gareth Southgate, who himself wasn’t sure yesterday whether he would be able to pick either of them.

Both Mount and Chilwell were seen speaking to Gilmour after full time, and apparently had a long conversation with him outside the dressing rooms.

Gilmour tested positive for coronavirus yesterday, ruling him out of Scotland’s final group game. The England pair have been considered at risk of carrying the virus, despite both having tested negative twice since full time.

If that’s not ridiculous enough, none of the Scotland players who Gilmour plays and trains and lives with day in day out, have been ruled out.

Blues determined to agree deal for Croatian centre-back

According to a recent report from his country’s news outlet, Versus La Nacion. Chelsea have approached the Brazilian club Palmeiras over the potential landing of the Paraguay international Gustavo Gomez.

Although Gustavo has played the majority of his professional career in South America, Gomez was, for a time, a member of the AC Milan roster, when he joined the club five years ago.

The 28-year-old star was even involved in 16 Serie A matches in the 2016/17 season, but never really managed to make an impression.

As a result, the former Libertad ace was sent out on to Palmeiras three seasons ago, with Abel Ferreira’s side eventually securing his services permanently last year – for a fee of just €2m.

It has turned out to be a huge bargain, as the 28-year-old Gustavo has proven to be a defensive lynchpin for his team, forming a solid partnership alongside Renan Silva and Luan Teixeira last year.

He has also starred for his country, especially in the early stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Gomez’s formidable understanding with Fabian Balbuena and Junior Alonso were, in fact, vital in helping Paraguay remain sturdy in the defence, losing just once in the first six games.

His contributions haven’t gone unnoticed it seems, with Thomas Tuchel’s side now mulling over a move for the South American.
