Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Timo Werner and the striker will relish playing alongside Ziyech.
After confirming Ziyech’s capture in February, Chelsea made another emphatic statement of intent by winning the race for in-demand RB Leipzig striker Werner, whose arrival was confirmed on Thursday. However, The potential of a Ziyech-Werner connection in attack should excite Chelsea supporters.
Assuming Ziyech replaces soon-to-be-out-of-contract Willian on the right of Chelsea’s 4-3-3, he will have the freedom to cut inside and find the German striker, who is highly effective at playing on the shoulder of the last man.
Ziyech should also find ample opportunities to link up with Christian Pulisic or Callum Hudson-Odoi, depending on who cements their place on the left flank.
Ziyech’s arrival could be a game-changing development for Chelsea. Not only are the Blues adding an elite playmaker who has shone consistently at the highest level, but it gives Lampard options with regards to his tactics.
Perhaps more than anything, though, the Ajax No.22’s ability to unlock left-sided attackers bodes well for Chelsea’s Werner plan. With Ziyech and Werner – not to mention whoever follows them through the door this summer – operating in attack, Chelsea have a squad capable of challenging Liverpool’s supremacy next season.
Of course, for that to happen, every facet of the Chelsea machine will have to operate at maximum efficiency, but a Ziyech-Werner one-two punch could see the Blues’ attack reach dazzling new heights next season.
